ALUMNI FEATURE: PHIL TAYLOR '81

To honor the women and men who have served our country, we had a special Veterans Day presentation in chapel on the Campus of Fort Worth Christian. And it involved hearing about the ministry of one of our own, Phil Taylor '81.

For years, Phil used his God-given artistic abilities to make a living as a painter. Then he attended the funeral of a fallen soldier. Everything changed.

The American Fallen Soldiers Project was formed to help provide comfort and healing to the grieving families of our fallen military. A 501c3 non-profit organization, the American Fallen Soldiers Project makes available, at no cost to the family, an original portrait of their fallen loved one that fully captures their appearance and personality. Since its inception in 2007, hundreds of our portraits have been presented to the Gold Star families during special events across the United States.

During chapel on November 10th, Phil shared his journey with God and how the Lord transformed his purpose to serving the families of fallen soldiers. At the conclusion of the presentation, current Cardinal Athletic Director Kyle Story presented Phil with a special gift from the Athletic Department. Phil received jersey #19, the number he wore making the game-saving tackle to secure the 1980 State Football Championship!

Before joining our Art 100 classes for Q&A with our students, Phil enjoyed reuniting with former teammates. Pictured below are Mark Alexander '81 (and current Preschool Director Sherrie Alexander) and Kevin Walters '82.

Watch this amazing video about the American Fallen Soldiers Project and the work of FWC alum, Phil Taylor '81.

Earlier In November, Director of Alumni Relations Terry Drake, made a journey to Dallas to visit Phil and his wife Lisa at their gallery. Below are some of the photos from that visit:
