Caleb Davis '13: From Cancer to Making Wishes Come True

Caleb Davis, a graduate of the Class of 2013, exemplifies the values and spirit of the school in his life journey. Currently residing in Burleson just south of Fort Worth, Caleb reflects on his time at FWC with fondness, emphasizing the tight-knit community that shaped his character and relationships. His story is not just about personal success but also about giving back and making a meaningful impact on others' lives.

Caleb's story is a remarkable story of navigating the world of cancer. When he was 9 years old in 2004, they found an abnormally large mass on his neck. After a biopsy, they found out it was malignant and it was stage 4 rhabdomyosarcoma, which is a rare form of muscle cancer. "My treatment plan consisted of 42 weeks of chemotherapy and 2 months of radiation," said Caleb. "After a year's worth of treatment in 2005, I was pronounced in remission!"

Using his story, Caleb has gone above and beyond by serving as an ambassador for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and subsequently founding Wished Events, a non-profit organization dedicated to hosting charity events for childhood cancer foundations. Through Wished Events, Caleb has raised substantial funds, demonstrating his passion for making a difference in the lives of those in need.

"After serving as an ambassador for the Make-A-Wish foundation, I decided to recently start my own nonprofit organization. Wished Events is a charity event organizing company that hosts a variety of exciting charity events to generate proceeds to donate to childhood cancer foundations." After a year and a half from our starting point, Wished Events has now hosted 3 events and has generated over $30,000 from events to be able to make donations to the Make-A-Wish foundation. Just this past week, Wished Events hosted their "Run the Ribbon" 5K and 1 mile run to benefit childhood cancer relief. (see Wished Events on Instagram for pictures of the event)

When asked about his favorite aspect of FWC, Caleb immediately mentions the community. It is evident that the bond formed within FWC extends far beyond graduation. The genuine investment of faculty, coaches, and peers in each student's growth and well-being leaves a lasting impression. Caleb cherishes the memories and relationships forged during his time at FWC, some of which continue to thrive today.

Post-graduation, Caleb's journey has been marked by significant milestones. He married Meghan Davis whom he met while at UMHB. He graduated with a bachelor's in Sports Management in 2017 and then graduated a year later with his Master's degree in Sports Administration also from UMHB.

Reflecting on his time at FWC, Caleb speaks highly of Coach Gunn, a teacher and mentor who left a profound impact. "Whether it was in the classroom or athletics," said Caleb, "Coach Gunn always showed a sincere care for the students. While providing a valuable education in our Bible class, the biggest impact I think Coach Gunn had was using his platform as a Bible teacher and a coach to help mold people into the best version of themselves and being a quality mentor at a time in our lives when we needed it the most."

FWC's education equipped Caleb for the challenges of college and beyond. The strong academic foundation and Christian values instilled during his time at FWC continue to guide him in his personal and professional life. "The education I received at FWC set me up for success in a way I could only realize after I had graduated. Upon arriving at college I felt extremely prepared in taking on higher education and I attribute that to my education during my time at FWC. FWC also instilled solid Christian morals that I still carry with me today and appreciate being educated in a Christian environment."

To prospective students considering FWC, Caleb offers enthusiastic encouragement. He highlights the comprehensive experience FWC offers, from academics to athletics and, most importantly, the sense of belonging within a faith-centered community. "I couldn't recommend FWC highly enough! From the education, to the athletics, to the friends you will make, FWC is a community you want to be a part of. Some of my best memories are my time at FWC and if I could go back I would in a heartbeat. Most importantly though your surrounding yourself with people of faith and getting to share in these memories with brothers and sisters in Christ."

In March of this year, Caleb spoke to our high school students in Chapel about his story and the impact FWC has had on his life. It was wonderful for students to hear how God is faithful through even the most challenging seasons of life.

In conclusion, Caleb Davis's journey from FWC to his current endeavors reflects the core values and mission of the school. His dedication to community, service, and faith exemplifies the spirit of FWC and serves as an inspiration to current and future students. Caleb's story is a testament to the lasting impact of his FWC education centered on love, community, and faith.
