Grades 6-8 Information

Consistent with the mission statement, the Fort Worth Christian School faculty seeks to educate the whole student, thus middle school activities include not only instructional classroom time, but also opportunities for service and spiritual development, as well as athletic and academic competitions. The middle school provides a bridge from the highly structured elementary grades to the high school level where there is a greater emphasis on independent learning and higher expectations.

ACADEMICS
The middle school follows a traditional schedule, allowing for seven instructional periods a day.

  • Christian Living – Each grade follows four tracks each year consisting of Bible, discipleship, leadership and relationships.
  • English – Each grade emphasizes grammar and composition; grades 7 and 8 include research techniques and American and British Literature suitable to the age group.
  • Mathematics – Besides the basic course, students in grade 7 who qualify may choose to take Pre-Algebra and proceed with Algebra in grade 8 for high school credit.
  • Science – Students take the following sequence of courses: Earth Science (grade 6), Life Science (grade 7), and Integrated Physics and Chemistry (IPC—grade 8 for high school credit). An emphasis on hands-on learning, as well as a state-of-art science laboratory, builds a strong foundation for those students who decide later to pursue a field of study in the sciences.
  • History – Students take Social Studies in grade 6, Texas History in grade 7, and American History in grade 8.
  • Health – All students take Health in grade 7.
  • Physical Education – All students take Physical Education, grades 6-8.
  • Electives – All students have the opportunity to take the following electives during their middle school years: Animal Science, Band, Chorus, Art, Drama, Speech, Computer, Homemaking, and Spanish. In grade 8, they may take Spanish, Latin, or Computer for high school credit.

SPIRITUAL LIFE
Students attend a daily chapel time as well as a Bible class. Opportunities for community service exist throughout the year. Also, students participate in spiritual retreats. Because we recognize that all of one’s life should be lived to bring honor to God, all activities are viewed with a Christian perspective whether in Bible class, on the playing field, or raking leaves for an elderly neighbor.

ENRICHMENT
Students at FWC have many opportunities for enrichment, particularly in the area of learning experiences outside of the classroom. Eighth graders travel to Washington, DC, and New York City to visit the places studied in history and learn more about the founding of our country. Students also try out for various academic competitions from area spelling bees to statewide academic meets. Students have opportunities for leadership positions in Student Council, National Junior Honor Society, holding class offices, and cheerleading.
